Dear Parents & Guardians,
Please find information to assist you below.
Complexity Funding
We are excited to share that we have recently received funding for a new complexity teacher and educational assistant for Scarlett. Becky Kramer one of our Science teachers and Divine Garcia our new EA will be working in these roles. They bring much experience to the roles and we know that our students will be well served by their time and attention.
Doors and Security Information
After sending out our letter by email last week re: Doors and Security Information to families, we wanted to answer some common questions below.
As part of ongoing security reviews across the Calgary Board of Education (CBE), and in alignment with new Alberta Education safety standards and guidelines, schools across the province are strengthening their procedures related to building access and security.
One of the changes we are implementing at our school is ensuring that exterior doors remain locked whenever they cannot be actively supervised.
What are the times when students can access the school?
- 7:55 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.: Front and back door will be open and supervised during this high-volume arrival period.
- During lunch: Front door will be open and supervised.
- All other times: Students arriving at the school will need to enter through the main entrance.
- The buzzer system at the main entrance will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students can use the buzzer to contact the main office, and office staff will provide access to the school.
- Students who have music classes, morning practices, leadership classes, or other activities that begin before regular school hours during the J Block will be let initially into the school by their teacher or supervising staff member. If students are late you will need to come to the front door and use the buzzer to get into the school.
When can parents and guardians access the school during the school day?
To help maintain a safe and secure learning environment, parents and guardians should not come to the school during school hours unless they have a scheduled appointment.
If you need to meet with a staff member, please contact the school in advance to arrange an appointment by calling 403-281-3366. Please come to the main office when you arrive.
CBE Student Well-Being Survey – Administered October-November
Each year, Calgary Board of Education (CBE) students are invited to participate in surveys that gather feedback about their learning experiences, well-being, engagement, and school environment. Survey results help schools and the CBE evaluate programs, inform planning, and identify opportunities to better support student success and well-being.
The CBE Student Survey is an anonymous, voluntary online perception survey administered twice during the school year. A shorter set of questions is administered in the fall, while the spring survey contains the full complement of questions.
Topics may include:
- School connectedness and belonging
- Positive relationships
- Feeling safe at school
- Well-being and self-regulation
- Awareness of self and others
Participation in these surveys helps the CBE better understand student experiences and identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement. Your student’s feedback is important!
Consent for student participation in CBE surveys was collected through the Annual Authorization Forms in SchoolEngage/myCBE.
- If you selected Yes, your child may participate in applicable surveys.
- If you selected No, your child will not participate in applicable surveys.
If you have not yet completed the Annual Authorization Forms, please submit your consent preference through SchoolEngage by: October 5th.
If no response is received by the response deadline, parental consent will be assumed and your child may participate in the survey. Regardless of parental consent status, student participation remains voluntary.
If you are unable to access SchoolEngage, please contact the school before this date for assistance.
*A letter regarding upcoming CBE Student Surveys was also sent home via School Messenger.
