Dear Parents & Guardians,

We are heading into basketball playoffs this week and also our annual Winds from the South music program at Jack Singer on Monday. There is a lot of information that we hope you find useful below.

Basketball Playoffs

A number of our basketball teams are heading into playoffs this week.  Best of luck Lancers!!

  • Jr. Girls: at EP Scarlett vs. Central Memorial Mon, March 4 – 5:30 PM
  • Sr. Girls: at Henry Wise Wood Tues, March 5 – 5:30 PM
  • Sr. Boys:  Tuesday March 5 – Time and location TBD

There are a couple of things to be aware of:

1. Attendance at playoff games is still following the limited spectator policy.  Student ID will be required to enter the gym.

2. There is a gate admission for all playoff games.

ADMISSION PRICES
          Adults                                                           $5.00
          Students & Seniors                                      $2.00
          Children under 6                                          Free
The proceeds of the gate admissions are not retained by the schools; they are remitted to CSHSAA and used to offset the expenses of the sport programs.

Music Update

This week is busy for our music students with our annual Winds from the South show happening at the Jack Singer Concert Hall on Monday, March 4.

On Tuesday March 5, our Jazz 2 students will be competing at the Alberta International Band Festival at the Polaris Centre. Parents are more than welcome to take in the performance that starts at 4:00 PM.

Our Jazz 1 students will be competing at the AIBF (again out the Polaris Centre), with their performance scheduled for Thursday, Mar 7 at 1:30 PM.

Thanks in advance for your support, we are looking forward to celebrating another amazing week of music!

Course Selection for next years Grade 11 & 12 Students

PowerSchool will be open for course selections for next year Grade 11 and 12 students until 11:59pm on Sunday, March 3. Students should log into their student portal, go to “Class Registration” and enter their requests prior to this deadline. After this point, counsellors will be making selections for next year courses based off student transcripts. Any student who requires support with this over the weekend can access a supporting registration slideshow on the Student Services D2L shell under “Presentations.”

On Monday, March 4, Student Services will be posting a list of students on track to receive their high school diploma by June outside of the Guidance offices. The list will be posted by Alberta Student Number (ASN). Students who are not on the list are asked to book an appointment with their guidance counsellor to discuss credit recovery, summer school, or transition options. We will be updating the list periodically throughout the semester.

Bamfield Marine Science Centre Trip – October 29 – November 1.

October 21, 2024 Scarlett students will have the chance to travel to Bamfield Marine Science Centre on the west coast of Vancouver Island. There will be a parent meeting for interested students on Wednesday, March 13 at 6:30 in the Learning Commons. Current grade 10 students interested in the trip may also register but priority will be given to the grade 11 students. Email Mr. McKillop for more details at mdmckillop@cbe.ab.ca .

Quoi de neuf? What's new in French Immersion?

Scarlett French Café - Each semester French Immersion students are invited to our Scarlett French Café. This semester, Mme Simard will be hosting the French Café for our French Immersion students in Room 286 on Thursday, March 7 from 8:15 - 9:00am. All French Immersion students are welcome to drop by, have a "French Café" experience, socialize with their peers and some students will be awarded their Certificats de méritas that morning as well, in recognition of their hard work and achievements in the first semester.

DELF - March 6

We will have our first DELF exam prep session in Room 123 on March 6 starting at 8:25 am. These sessions are optional, though incredibly useful to understand the objective of the exam and how to best succeed. I do recommend that students attend the first two sessions, as we review the interview portion of the exam, which tends to be the biggest challenge for our students taking the DELF. Students signed up for the DELF exam should have received an email from me by now outlining next steps, and must stop by my room on March 6th to ensure that the information they provided at sign-up for the exam is accurate. This will be their last chance to modify that information before taking the exam in April.

Grade 12 Students

All Grade 12 Students must complete the online form to participate in the School Closing Exercises:

The form along with the grad fee is due now. Thank you everyone! Ms. Chaudhry snchaudhry@cbe.ab.ca

Lost and Found

This week there will be a table set up in the main office with small items that have been turned in. If you are missing an air pod, or something small, please swing by the office and check it out!

Leadership Update

Last week over 100 mini care packages with notes of gratitude went out to the neighbouring houses surrounding Scarlett. Thank you to the Leadership students for putting this together.

As always, Leadership 25/35will be offered as an in-timetable class next year, as well, we will also be offering a J-Block class – this will run Monday, Wednesday and every second Friday, before regular classes (7:30-8:55) for the whole year, for the same 5/6 credits. No pre reqs required for any level. This allows students to have more room in their time-table for core subjects; and in addition, offers a lot of flexibility for students with busy schedules and limited time. If you are interested, you can find it on your regular course registration pick sheet under JBlock LDC Leadership 35 (even if you are only in 25). If you want to make a difference in your school, Leadership is a great way to get involved. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Ehrmann mrehrmann@cbe.ab.ca

Please find our exam schedule for June on the Exam Schedule page of our website. If you have a question or a conflict with an exam please contact Ms. Kate Malayko, Assistant Principal, at kgmalayko@cbe.ab.ca by email so she can coordinate this for you.
